Bowl Game Picks: 2013 New Year’s Day Bowls

December 31, 2012 No Comments »

There are six bowl games to be played on New Year’s Day, making it the most active day of the 2012-2013 bowl season. It’s also the last day where there will be multiple college football games this season (sad trombone).

The official names of the six games are as follows, so that the corporate sponsors may be placated: the Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl, the Heart of Dallas Bowl, the Outback Bowl, the Capital One Bowl, the Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio, and the Discover Orange Bowl.

Since it’s New Year’s Eve and nobody will read this, anyway, we’ll dispense with all of the formalities and just get straight to the picks.

2012 Gator Bowl Pick: Northwestern | Wildcats just a little better than Mississippi State at this point

2012 Heart of Texas Bowl Pick: Oklahoma State | Pokes’ dangerous offense wins the day over Purdue

2012 Outback Bowl Pick: South Carolina | As good as the Wolverines are this year, the Gamecocks have been better

2012 Capital One Bowl Pick: Georgia | The Bulldogs have an excellent defense, good enough to get me to pick them

2012 Rose Bowl Pick: Stanford | Awesome to see Barry Alvarez coaching one more time, but the team he gets to face is superior

2012 Orange Bowl Pick: Florida State | NIU is a nice story, but them winning would be one of the most substantial bowl upsets of all-time
