College Football Pick Six: Week 8, 2012 Season

College Football Picks

Somehow, I’m doing pretty damn well with these against-the-spread college football picks, and we’re halfway through the season. By now, I’m usually getting my ass handed to me, but I am quite satisfied. Enough about me, though: what about this week’s games?

As always, this isn’t gambling advice or an invitation to do so, spread is as of Wednesday night, and all times are Eastern. Rankings are BCS standings.

Last week: 4-2
Overall: 27-15

Pick One: #3 Oregon Ducks at Arizona State Sun Devils | Oregon -8 | Thursday, 9pm, ESPN

Arizona State is a fine team, but how many times this year have we seen Oregon obliterate their opponents? Laying eight points almost seems too easy, but remember, the Sun Devils have a good defense. Too tempted to go with the more explosive team, however. Oregon -8

Pick Two: Minnesota Golden Gophers at Wisconsin Badgers | Wisconsin -17.5 | Saturday, 12pm, ESPNU

Minnesota’s probably not got much chance of beating Bucky, who have cruised in their last two games. They haven’t beaten Wisconsin in years, and I doubt they will here — the issue is the spread, which is mighty big. The Gophers have only gotten slapped around once this season, and I’m not sure I want to give Wisconsin a three-score margin. I’ll probably regret this one later. Minnesota +17.5

Pick Three: #7 South Carolina Gamecocks at #2 Florida Gators | Florida -3.5 | Saturday, 3:30pm, CBS

The Head Ball Coach returns to the Swamp to find his old team on a mission. The Cocks are still recovering from last week’s loss in Death Valley, and it’s not going to get any easier. This is a game both teams have to have for division supremacy, but I’m just too big of a believer in this Florida team right now. Florida -3.5

Pick Four: #21 Cincinnati Bearcats at Toledo Rockets | Cincinnati -6.5 | Saturday, 7pm, ESPN3

Toledo could be a pain in the ass at home, but remember, they’re in the MAC, therefore they give up a good amount of points. Cincy does not. I have to believe that whatever the Rockets put up, the Bearcats can do better. Cincinnati -6.5

Pick Five: #4 Kansas State Wildcats at #13 West Virginia Mountaineers | WVU -2.5 | Saturday, 7pm, FOX

Two very good teams here. West Virginia has had a rough last few weeks in terms of scheduling, and it’s not improving this weekend. Both of these teams have Heisman contenders at quarterback and very powerful offenses, but the Wildcats have something the Mountaineers don’t: defense. Kansas State +2.5

Pick Six: #14 Florida State Seminoles at Miami Hurricanes | FSU -21 | Saturday, 8pm, ABC

The Seminoles are fresh off of destroying my alma mater while Miami has now lost consecutive games. The ‘Canes could get up for this one, you never know, but the fact is that against the two ranked teams Miami has played this year, they have lost 93-16. Even with a huge line, I can’t touch Miami knowing that good teams have demolished them. Florida State -21

(Bonus Pick, does not count in standings: Michigan State +10 vs. Michigan)
